Cross-discount overview

Publishers are able to set up “upgrade discounts” that offer a discount for a certain asset when another asset is licensed.

This system is used to provide discounts to upgrade to newer versions (eg. a version 2), or as a way to offer a relevant asset. Please keep in mind that this a courtesy.

Discounts may decrease over time as an asset is updated further and further, or its price increases.

Frequency Asked Questions

Discounts do not stack, so the asset store always presents you with the highest discount available

You will need to be logged into the account that has a license for the asset

These upgrade discounts are set up globally, so aren’t possible for individual users.

Newly released assets are announced on Discord, Unity forums, social media and in the documentation (top), and the available upgrade discount will always be listed on an assets store page. Keeping some track of current development ensures you can make use of discounted time frames.

This is a common misconception: you don’t have to. The asset you purchased is still the same as when you did.

Assets cannot be updated and revised indefinitely. Development can be branched off into a separate, new, asset for a number of reasons. That work also needs to be fairly compensated.

A core principle I adhere to is that updates to assets may never:
• Introduces breaking changes, requiring aspects to be redone
• Change workflows drastically
• Remove support for an originally advertised/included feature

This would be detrimental to anyone who uses them in a production.

This does some times mean certain desired features aren’t ever realized, but only have the opportunity in a new (successor) asset.

Not at all. See the FAQ (How long are assets supported and maintained for?)
