Stylized Water 3 - Dynamic Effects (Extension)
6.Custom Effects
Creating a custom effects is certainly encouraged, as this will result in visual effects tailored to your specific project.
Core concept: Any renderer component using a material with the “Stylized Water 3/Dynamic Effect” shader will be rendered into the water.
This shader takes an input texture map that may be used to control Displacement and Foam strength. If left blank, the material outputs full strength for both
| Color channel | Strength of |
|---|---|
| Red | Displacement |
| Green | Foam |
| Blue | Normal Strength |
| Alpha | Unused |
Boat foam edge
Foam can be drawn around the hull of the boat by modeling a “skirt” mesh for it. It doesn’t have to perfect, but roughly sit at the point where the mesh would intersect with the water.
Painting the mesh with a Green vertex color ensures that it applies only Foam. The edges here are made Black so that the strength tapers off linearly.

The result is a foam trim that stays consistent. As opposed to the realtime Intersection Foam effect, which is based on scene-depth so cannot “wrap around” a mesh.
